NHS Winter Dance 2022
Leila Laaziz and Ashley Sutherland /  Mon, 26 Dec 2022

The winter school dance was held on the evening of Thursday December 22. Leading up to the first dance of the school year, Nepean students were brimming with excitement. In fact, all of the tickets sold out in the days leading up to it. With multiple checks of student belongings and all large bags taken away and stored till the end of the dance, the school made sure to keep students safe while still having a good time.

The theme for the dance was, “A Century of NHS” – a nod to our school’s 100th anniversary. Students arrived dressed in outfits ranging from full-on black tie to casual attire such as jeans and a t-shirt.

As the evening began, the dance floor was quiet with people slowly making their way to the dance floor. The gym was decorated with balloons, paper snowflakes and atmospheric lighting. There was also a huge banner announcing “NHS WINTER DANCE 2022” in a charming font.

While the dance was still getting started, attendees could visit the photo booth where you and your friends could have photos taken to remember the night. Students could also enjoy the bake sale run by student volunteers with cupcakes, cookies, sodas, and many more delectable treats.

The dance really got going around 7:15 p.m., which was about the time that the entrance doors closed. To keep the mood up, the DJs were playing songs spanning the decades such as ABBA,Taylor Swift, and Jack Harlow among various DJs remixes. Nepean’s own band, “Color Red”, who played at last month’s Coffee House, gave another very impressive performance.

One of the DJs then got the students to form a dance circle, and if students had enough confidence they could get in the middle to show off their dance moves. One student even impressed the crowd with some classic breakdance moves!

As the evening began to wind down, there was a slow dance to “Hey There Delilah” by the Plain White T's for the couples (of course you could just dance with your friends like me!).

Overall, Nepean’s winter dance was a huge success. If the sold-out tickets weren’t enough of an indicator, you could feel the excitement in the gym and all the students seemed to have a fun time. It was a great way to end the 2022 season at Nepean, and kick-off the holidays!
