The Sun is Also a Star by Jamaican-American author Nicola Yoon is amazing, suspenseful, engaging, and it really makes you think. I believe that one major reason you should read this book is because of the writing style. Nicola Yoon has written this book so well. She uses expressive language, powerful imagery and describes everything so well. Even though the novel covers the events of only a single day, I never got bored reading it. In fact, I couldn’t put it down. Another reason this book is a must-read is because the characters are teenagers, so they are so relatable. They face common, modern-day issues that teens face and they think about their futures, and learn about love, and they argue. But this book is also a window for the reader. You are able to learn about how people can be so different yet so similar. And that different cultures think and teach differently. Also, you learn about racial prejudices and how Natasha and Daniel’s respective families all have different influences on them, good and bad. A third reason I enjoyed this book is because this book really made me think. In this book, the characters discuss destiny, true love and the universe fairly often. I learned about how different people have many different perspectives on these topics and everything in between. Also, that things happen for a reason and that maybe, sometimes it isn’t always a coincidence.
