Film Review: Venom: Let There Be Carnage

If it’s a rainy day or you’re just looking for something to do, you’re probably going to go see a movie. I would too as it’s a great way to spend a miserable day or a brisk evening. The theatres always have a wide variety of movies, some good, some bad. Few are bad; however, those that are, are made very obvious. One of which is Sony’s Venom: Let There Be Carnage. This movie was a complete and utter waste of my and my family's time. Not one of us enjoyed it.

To start off this movie just takes too long to start. The first 45 minutes of the movie are just boring. I found that the first somewhat important action scene occurred half way through the film. Maybe some of you would enjoy learning all that backstory, but if you’re a teenager like myself, I’m sure that your attention span is about the size of a pea.

This movie is about a parasite that can take human form who makes his way onto

earth. The parasite infects the main character and then becomes his alter ego. They live, fight, and experience life together as one. Honestly, this movie is kind of like a parasite. It latches on to you for 97 minutes, you have an awful experience, and then it goes away.

Tom Hardy’s performance was hard to bear witness to. He had a voice in his head who sounded like the cookie monster and the dialogue was quite dull. Woody Harrelson should be embarrassed to have been included in this sloppy mess that they call a movie. He clearly didn’t read the script or missed the memo saying this movie is hot garbage. It really is hot garbage, and that's being generous.

After the tedious beginning, you'd expect the end to be at least decent, right? Wrong, the end of this film features an overly long and underwhelming fight scene that really just features a couple slime balls jumping around at each other. Wikipedia claims this film to be 97 minutes; however, it felt like an eternity in that theatre.

Maybe if this film didn't have a 110 million dollar budget it would have been decent. That budget puts it in the same category as several Marvel movies and some of the Harry Potter films, which this definitely does not compare to. Honestly, this monstrosity of a film could probably earn a passing grade for a college student at best. Don’t waste your time, don’t waste your money, and most importantly, don’t waste your sanity on this film.
