S&G Fries and Burgers Review

If you’ve ever gone out for lunch during school, you’ve probably passed by S&G Fries and Burgers, the shack right beside the Produce Depot. For the past three years I’ve been at Nepean High School and I always passed by, but I never bought anything. I recently decided to take a chance and try out what is so highly regarded by students at Nepean.

S&G Fries has the typical “shack menu”: fries, poutine, burgers, hot dogs, and chicken fingers, along with egg rolls from the Golden Bowl. I chose to get a small poutine.

I received my order very quickly, and sat at one of their orange patio tables, with a great view of Carling. In a poutine, I always like to see the essential trio: crispy fries, real cheese curds, and a rich and savoury gravy that melts the two together. S&G’s poutine did just that. The fries really stood out as they were hand-cut and plentiful, adding to that savoury feeling of a poutine. I often see restaurants use shredded cheese or other forms of cheese to replace cheese curds, so I was happy to see that S&G uses real curds.

Despite getting a small, it felt like I got the equivalent of a medium since the portion sizes were so generous. Furthermore, the pricing structure is fairly reasonable, giving you a great meal without hurting your wallet, which was great.

I can’t believe this was the first time I ever went here, and I will definitely be coming here again. If you’re ever in the area, or feel undecided about what to eat at lunch, I highly recommend you eat at S&G Fries!
