Back to School With a Bang!

On September 9, the first Friday of the school year, StudCo hosted a “Welcome Back Friday Fun!” event. The event was filled with freezies, music and lots of chalk drawings! It also served as a chance for students to get to know some of their StudCo representatives. Overall, the event was a huge success. Lots of students showed up just to hang out and to write lots of encouraging messages on the sidewalk along with various drawings. This event is just the beginning of StudCo’s plans for exciting events in the upcoming school year. This is the first year we’ve had where things are seemingly back to normal and our student council wants this year to be filled with lots of fun events to make up for these past couple of years. I talked to Amy Hollingsworth, the Grade 12 rep about StudCo’s plans this year. Some upcoming plans she told me about were a student vs. teacher dodgeball game once the gym renovations are done. There’s also plans for a school dance around Thanksgiving along with plans to open up the cafeteria again and reopen the stoop as a place for Grade 12s. Amy says; “coming to school events like this one is a great way for students to get involved in the school community”. There’s still lots of opportunities for students to get involved in StudCo as well. This fall the student council is looking to elect 2 Grade 9 reps, 1 Grade 10 rep, and a Grade 12 rep. Anyone who’s interested is encouraged to apply, and more details on this will be announced soon. All in all, StudCo is hoping to make this a fun year where students can get together and make good memories. The “Welcome Back Friday Fun Friday!” event was just the first of many events of this nature.
